Letting Go Of Greatness For What’s Better For You

The courage to leave something you love is bittersweet. To leave not because it failed you, not because it hurt you, but simply because your best lies elsewhere.

Toulouse has been beautiful to me. I dreamt of it when I was living in America, before I knew its name or that it even existed. It’s where my children and I realized France as our home. It’s where my husband was born, and where I met him. It’s where old friendships were rekindled by those who crossed the ocean to visit me.

An ocean that has been whispering to me for years.

And to my partly Basque husband; it’s been a call home.

Since becoming a family we’ve spent part of our summers on the Basque coast, every year - first dreaming and then planning for the day that our time  there would be permanent.

Our plan was two years from now. After returning home from our last extended visit, I knew it needed to happen now.

The terms aren’t perfect. The plan isn’t finished. But we know where we feel best; and we’re choosing to live there now, not later.

Neville Goddard taught that you must “live in the result”; embodying the reality you desire before the conditions seem ready. It’s not about recklessness. It’s about trust. It’s about aligning yourself with the environment, relationships, and beliefs that let you offer the most to the world.

Sometimes we cling to people, places, situations, and opportunities simply because they’re good or even great; and because part of us doubts we’re worthy of better. But “the best” is not universal. It’s personal. It’s the place where your deepest joy and your greatest contribution meet.

And so, we go to where the waters heal my soul and my husband’s body. Where the shore abounds with the sort of life we want our children to know before they’re grown. We leave this city not because Toulouse isn’t beautiful, but because the Basque coast is ours.

Don’t hold onto anything that’s no longer carrying you toward your fullest expression. Your best life isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s waiting for your decision.
